As we approach International Wheelchair Day, we’re reminded of the incredible impact mobility solutions have on the lives of those who need them most. At SciPro, we’re proud to support Designability; a UK charity dedicated to creating innovative mobility solutions for disabled children and adults. Since 2019, our partnership has not only raised substantial funds but also strengthened our commitment to their mission of fostering equal opportunities by breaking down barriers to independence.

Why Designability?

When we partnered with Designability in 2019, our objective was clear: to make a meaningful difference. Their commitment to designing life-changing mobility solutions for disabled people, combined with their expertise and dedication, made them the perfect partner for SciPro UK. As Ed Bevans, Director of SciPro, London, shared "It wasn’t just their mission that stood out, it was the people behind it”. He adds “Their passion and commitment were truly inspiring."

Our Fundraising Journey

Over the years, SciPro UK and LHi team have come together to raise over £25,000 for Designability. From endurance challenges to glamorous events, our team has gone above and beyond to support this cause.

One of the most remarkable efforts came during lockdown when John Morkus rowed the virtual length of the English Channel. In 2021, our London SciPro team took on the challenge of running a trails marathon, followed by a team from across our LHi brands in 2022, who braved scorching 35-degree heat to complete a Tough Mudder.

But we didn’t stop there... Beyond these challenges, our team has taken on ultra-marathons, the iconic London Marathon, and even the Three Peaks Challenge. These events have not only pushed our limits but also brought us together as a team. One of our most memorable fundraising moments was a black-tie gala ball, organised by Sarah Bouvier from Lawrence Harvey (Tech Recruitment Brand) and Maggie Duphard from Piper Maddox (Clean Energy Brand), which became our largest single fundraiser to date!

Ed highlights "The key to overcoming these challenges has been teamwork. Instead of relying on one big event, we’ve had numerous individuals stepping up, each contributing in their own way. Collectively, this has made all the difference." Each event has brought us closer to our shared goal, highlighting the power of teamwork and collective effort in making a real impact.

Making an Impact

Thanks to the funds raised, we’ve contributed to the manufacturing of five new WizzyBugs, innovative electric mobility devices designed for young children and adults. Each WizzyBug supports up to four children throughout its lifespan, meaning our contributions have directly improved the lives of 25 children and their families.

These devices do more than enhance mobility; they provide independence, confidence, and greater accessibility for children with mobility challenges. With the support of the incredible team at Designability, these life-changing mobility solutions continue to make a lasting impact.

Looking Ahead

As we mark International Wheelchair Day, we celebrate the life-changing impact of mobility solutions and the organisations driving innovation in this space. Our partnership with Designability has shown us the power of accessible design in transforming lives, and we remain committed to supporting their mission.

Moving forward, we aim to not only continue fundraising but also help amplify Designability’s message, promote their life-changing products, and support them through our expertise in recruitment and professional networking.

To everyone who has supported us on our journey, thank you. Together, we’ve made a real impact. If you’re inspired to get involved, whether through donations, fundraising, or spreading the word, your contribution can help change lives.
